Stats on the MBA Class of 2014

The Complete 2014 Business School Ranking has been released, and can be found on this link. For the first time ever, Harvard is not part of the Top 5 and Duke is No. 1! (Also check out how they were ranked.)

It's interesting to see this snapshot of the graduate class I'm part of, courtesy of Bloomberg BusinessWeek. For those of you concerned with the money you have to shell out for your MBA, the ROI of the school could be something to look at.

And, no, I didn't get that $1M signing bonus.

  1. Hi, it's me again!

I've been reading your blog for quite some time now, but I still haven't started my journey. Originally I was planning on getting my MBA next year, 2018, but I don't think I can leave my company just yet.

I might get promoted to Manager this July, and I'm hoping it will increase my chances of getting a scholarship, since I'll have managerial experience under my belt. Plus, I'll be getting a raise so that should help with the application expenses. :-)

However, with or without a promotion, I will never be able to afford an MBA degree abroad without a full scholarship. I read somewhere that I would have to be accepted first before the school considers me for a scholarship, and that I should still be able to fund the program on my own. Do you think it's worth the shot? The application process is already going to cost me and I'm worried it will all go to waste. Will it hurt my chances if I tell the schools that I simply cannot go without a full scholarship? Or am I too crazy?

Thanks and hope you're having a blast there!

    1. Hi - Good luck and hope you get that promotion!

I don't think asking for a full scholarship will hurt your chances. However, getting a high GMAT score (in the >700 range) will definitely help you in getting that scholarship. I recommend that you come up with a list of schools you are interested in, and study and take the GMAT. I think GMAT scores are valid for 5 years, but you have to enter the 5 schools that will receive the GMAT results when you take the test.

MBA.com states that once you choose the 5 schools that will receive your results, they cannot be changed. So you have to decide which programs you want to receive your GMAT scores before taking the test. You can select more schools after the test, but the results will be sent after paying an additional fee.

Spend your time waiting by finding out more about the MBA programs you are interested in, finalizing your school list, and preparing for the GMAT.
